Heartbreaking Renée Zellweger in the role of Judy Garland, a mine transformed into an amusement park… Here is our selection among the new

Like every week, here are the favorites of our film journalists with, this Wednesday, February 26, Renée Zellweger freshly and justly Oscar winner, Arnaud Ducret who fights for his disused mine threatened with destruction, and a modernized and successful version of the man invisible.

WE LOVE

"Judy"

London, 1968. The city is in turmoil with the arrival of Judy Garland who comes to perform in a large hall. The star, then aged 46, lives on his legend: this child of the ball has been singing on stage since he was 3 years old and owes his fame to the “Wizard of Oz” (1939). But when she arrives in the UK with her two children, she is rejected by Hollywood, ruined, sick, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and has behind her a suicide attempt. His return to the stage will temporarily transcend it…

Little was known about the end of Judy Garland's career, and "Judy", following the star in the last year of her life - with flashbacks -, paints a portrait of an exceptional woman. Judy is lost, crippled by money problems and addictions, and suffers from a need for recognition and love that no one can fill - she will die soon after. Renée Zellweger, unrecognizable, delivers an incredible performance.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 5/5

“Judy”, by Rupert Goold, with Renée Zellweger, Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock… 1h58. In theaters on February 26.

" Casually "

To save their disused coal mine, which is doomed to destruction, a core of irreducible old people decides to reconvert the site into a very artisanal amusement park with recycling equipment. They will have to put some old bitterness aside.

At the heart of this fierce resistance against a mayor (Rebecca Finet, impeccable) determined to pass in force, Arnaud Ducret and Philippe Rebbot constitute the most improbable, but also the most complementary duo. Mélanie Bernier, steeped in energy and light, Hélène Vincent and Rufus are also the axes of "Mine de rien", a re-enchanted merry-go-round that has required ten years of preparation. A film that is timely with social news and has a heart like that.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 5/5

"Mine de rien", by Mathias Mlekuz, with Arnaud Ducret, Philippe Rebbot, Mélanie Bernier, Hélène Vincent, Rufus… 1h25.

WE LOVE A LOT

This new version of the invisible man flares the fear while capturing the spirit of the times. In this case, the #MeToo movement, the main character of his "Invisible Man" being ... a woman, interpreted by Elisabeth Moss, star of "The Handmaid's Tale", who, in his feature film, goes from victim status to that of an opponent who gives blow for blow.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

“Invisible Man”, by Leigh Whannell, with Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge… 1h50.

"Dark Waters"

Cincinatti, 1975. When he has just become a partner in his firm, business lawyer Robert Bilott is contacted by a farmer, neighbor of his grandmother in West Virginia. The latter ensures that his cows are poisoned by toxic discharges from the factory of the powerful DuPont group. Specializing in the defense of the chemical industries, Bilott will nevertheless go to war against DuPont, the region's leading employer…. At the risk of “ruining his career for a peasant” and ruining his family life.

In the vein of "Erin Brockovich", "Dark Waters" is an engaging film served by a captivating story. In this story of David against Goliath, filmmaker Todd Haynes (director of "Carol") delicately deciphers the resources of industry giants to crush anonymous consumers. And it punctuates this drama with striking sequences.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

"Dark Waters", an American biopic by Todd Haynes. With Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins… 2h08.

"My Glory Days"

"Maybe it's a muscle that has dropped or a ligament that has farted?" Suggests Adrien to the doctor he came to consult because he has no more erections ... The reply sets the tone. "My Days of Glory" follows a young man of 27 who struggles between his banking prohibitions, his role as Charles de Gaulle in the film of a German director who does not want to pay him and, therefore, his problems with vigor.

Light, inflated, full of fantasy, this comedy portrays an endearing loser. And, on an a priori serious subject - depression -, he continues the hilarious scenes. Great nonchalant humor, Vincent Lacoste is surrounded by a brilliant Emmanuelle Devos as a somewhat perched mother and psychoanalyst who dismisses her son from a "Good day, little fag! "

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

"My Days of Glory", French comedy by Antoine de Bary. With Vincent Lacoste, Emmanuelle Devos, Christophe Lambert… 1h39.

"Cyrille, farmer ..."

As in "In the name of the earth", Cyrille is a debt-ridden farmer who cannot make ends meet. As in "Petit Paysan", Cyrille is devastated when he sees his cows die, which he has seen born and calls each by their first name ...

"Cyrille, farmer, 30 years, 20 cows ..." is a new poignant film on the life of French farmers today. This documentary follows a young dairy farmer who has taken over the parental farm and works eighteen hours a day on his farm, in the markets where he sells his butter, at the restaurant in the corner where he is a waiter. And who, by the way, gave up vacations and all love life. Despite a tireless investment, Cyrille sees his exploitation threatened because it is too small ... A raw and powerful film.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

"Cyrille, farmer, 30 years old, 20 cows, milk, butter, debts", documentary by Rodolphe Marconi. 1:25.

WE ALSO LIKE

"Lucky"

"Your idea is rotten, it looks like an idea of me!" This is roughly the reply that Tony (Michaël Youn) addresses to his friend Willy (Alban Ivanov) when the latter offers to steal a dog from the brigade des stups. With this kind of plan, no doubt: no more worries about money and supply since Lucky is the name of the animal, will lead them to the source. When Caroline Jamar (Florence Foresti), the not really white-white police commissioner, discovers the confusion, she dies of jealousy…

The third feature film by Belgian director Olivier van Hoofstadt, who had already hired Florence Foresti for the highly lit “Dikkenek”, this “Lucky” was the delightful surprise of the Alpe d'Huez festival. It's electric and full of ideas. If you want a comedy that does not throw powder at the eyes, this one is pure.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3.5 / 5

"Lucky", by Olivier Van Hoofstadt, with Michaël Youn, Alban Ivanov, Florence Foresti, Corinne Masiero, Sarah Suco, François Berléand… 1h26.
