A good omen for Les Misérables a few days from the Cesars. The Daniel-Toscan-du-Plantier 2020 prize, which distinguishes the best French producer of the year, was awarded to Toufik Ayadi and Christophe Barral for the feature film by Ladj Ly, announced the Académie des César in a press release .

Created in tribute to the producer who died in 2003, the Daniel-Toscan-du-Plantier prize rewards each year the audacity, eclecticism and aesthetics in production, at the initiative of the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques who organizes the César; the big ceremony on friday evening promises to be most sulphurous, against a backdrop of controversies over the organization and calls to write Roman Polanski from the palamarès.
The duo of Srab Films were elected after a vote of 1337 voters which took place from 12 to 24 February. The award was presented to the winners by Dominique Boutonnat, president of the National Cinema Center, at the producers' dinner organized on Monday at the George-V hotel. "We are fully aware that we do not have the greatest filmography in the room," declared Christophe Barral, thanking the voters "for the confidence that you have in us and that you have given us with this prize" .
Jury Prize at the last Cannes Festival, Les Misérables follows Stéphane (Damien Bonnard), a police officer from the anti-crime brigade freshly transferred to Montfermeil, for a hectic day. Critically successful, the film also met with great success in theaters. With some two million admissions, it is the fifth most watched French film released in 2019 in cinemas behind What we still did to the good Lord , We will finish together , Hors Norms and In the name of the earth .
With twelve mentions, including best film and best director, the feature film by Ladj Ly is a great Cesar favorite alongside J'accuse by Roman Polanski (also twelve nominations).
