The calculation of unemployment benefits will change on April 1

According to forecasts made by Unedic before the reform, 1.32 million people are impacted by the new formula.


Since November 1, 2019, job seekers have known what conditions they can claim unemployment benefits. From April 1, they will know the new amount of the benefit but also how long it will be paid to them. The implementation of the new unemployment insurance convention, drawn from the decrees of July 2019, enters its last phase with the application of the new method of calculating benefits.

The daily reference wage (SJR), which serves as the basis for unemployment benefit, will no longer be calculated by dividing the income received over the last twelve months by the number of days worked over this period. From now on, all days worked but also those where the person no longer had an employment contract over a period of 24 months, instead of 12, will be taken into account.
