Mattia, 38, hospitalized in Codogno in northern Italy, is the "patient 1" at the origin of the coronavirus epidemic which has already infected more than 220 people in the country.
According to the head of the Italian government, Giuseppe Conte, it was the improper management of the hospital in which Mattia was treated that caused the spread of Covid-19 in the region of Lombardy.
Patient 1 is said to have infected several doctors, as well as nurses, nursing assistants, patients and their families.
