(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 26 - After yesterday's confession and apology for the abuse of women, Spain canceled a PlacidoDomingo concert for the first time today. The National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (Inaem) which depends on the ministry of Spanish culture, has announced that it has canceled the participation of the host to the performances of the show Luisa Fernanda, of 14 and 15 May at the National Theater of Zarzuela "in solidarity with women abused ".
The Zarzuela National Theater is the same where the Madrid-born celebretenor who later became a baritone debuted 50 years ago. Since the meetoo scandal involved him, it had never happened in August that his representation was canceled. Until today, indeed, Domingo had maintained his status as a national monument of culture at home and many opera singers who over the years have sung alongside him had defended themselves. Domingo, 79, after dismissing the charges for months yesterday apologized, in a press release, to the women, about 20, who accused him of sexual abuse in America, he did it saying "sincerely displeased" and taking "all responsibility" of his staff . Just as a result of the accusations of violence, he had left the direction of the Los Angeles Opera in October and had given up performing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. (HANDLE).
