Just 48 hours after the wives were girded over their wrists, Gustavo Cerpa, the young man who shot and stabbed the Brazilian Valdir Prestes Barbosa - aka "The cuerero" - regained his freedom . Prestes Barbosa is accused of killing the older sister of Cerpa, who for his attack on the Brazilian was claimed by some of his neighbors and relatives.
Cerpa was brought before the Judge of Instruction of the city of Eldorado, Nilda Allou, who told him that he was not going to answer questions on the advice of his defender. The lawyer had already asked for his release and the judge granted it immediately. In Dos Hermanas, meanwhile, a group of neighbors had returned to concentrate in front of the police station, to demand the immediate freedom of Cerpa .
On Sunday afternoon, when he was part of the departures of police and civilians looking for femicide in a rural area near National Route 14, Cerpa came across him face to face, on a path. It was then that the young man shot him with a 16-gauge shotgun and then shot him several points. The rapid intervention of a patrol that heard the stammer of the weapon prevented Cerpa from killing the Brazilian.
The femicide ended with pellets in both arms that caused a fracture and other injuries that will require about 45 days of recovery, according to the doctors estimate.
Amid the confusion of the moment, Cerpa managed to hide the shotgun and the dagger with which he attacked the femicide among the weeds. Those weapons were kidnapped by the police the next day.
Sonia Cerpa was shot to death and slaughtered on the morning of Tuesday of last week in the courtyard of her house, in a rural area of difficult access that is about 50 kilometers from Dos Hermanas, in the Northeast of Misiones.
"El cuerero" had come there with intentions to convince her to resume the brief relationship they had while Sonia was separated from the father of her children. The woman's refusal resulted in an argument and he attacked her. Sonia managed to shout at her little daughters to flee to a hill to save their lives.
As soon as they heard of the crime, the woman's brothers joined the search for Prestes Barbosa, a Brazilian who settled in the Dos Hermanas area, where he worked in saddlery.
The search for Prestes Barbosa lasted five days. The police found signs of the passage of femicide through a house and could circumscribe the search to the Nueva Esperanza site, already in the municipality of San Pedro. In that place, when he left an area of dense vegetation, "El cuerero" ran into Sonia's brother.
Cerpa assured the police that he only defended himself against the attack of the fugitive, who tried to attack him with a knife. He said he shot to save his life and braided himself in a melee fight because he didn't have time to reload his shotgun after taking the first shot.
After arriving at the Brazilian, the police immobilized him and loaded him on a board to take him to the San Pedro Hospital. From there, he was referred to Samic Hospital in Eldorado, where he remains in police custody.
