A 69-year-old woman from the Buenos Aires town of Temperley died Thursday as a result of the mosquito-borne dengue virus. This is the second victim of the Province of Buenos Aires so far this year.

The victim is a lady, named Carmen, who had traveled to Paraguay and had entered the country on February 21. The next day she began to have symptoms and went to the Passo clinic in Temperley, where she was diagnosed with pharyngitis. There they told him to consume antibiotics and ibuprofen.

According to sources of the Ministry of Health of the Province, with the passing of the days the patient evolved in an unfavorable way, with sensory deterioration, fever and abdominal pain so she was treated again and later referred to the Penna Hospital of the City of Buenos Aires.

There he was admitted to the intensive care unit with mechanical respiratory assistance, but died of "multiorgan failure", the product of the advance of the virus. The Ministries of Health of the Nation and of the Province plan to publish the detailed report of the case this Friday morning, in the weekly epidemiological bulletin.

Carmen's is the second case in the Province. The previous one happened last Thursday and it was a neighbor of the town of Avellaneda, 73, who was admitted to the Italian Hospital. In that case he had not left the country, because what was an indigenous case.

The last major dengue epidemics in the country occurred in 2009, when there were five deaths, and in 2016, when 11 deaths were officially counted. Since that time no new deaths had been recorded.

On the subject, the Minister of Health of the Nation, Ginés González García, spoke last Saturday when he said: "I am very worried these days because it is in full expansion in Paraguay. I was there Wednesday with the ministers of the region. Paraguay there are officially 90 thousand cases and 16 dead, but they think they have more than 50. A peak is expected in Argentina for the first half of March and I hope to be wrong "

Cases of fatal dengue can occur when the one who contracts the disease does it a second time with a strain different from the previous one, which can unleash dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Among the most affected provinces are Buenos Aires, with 100 cases confirmed; Between Ríos, with 38 cases, and Santa Fe, with 36, fourteen of which are native.

For this reason, the Ministry decided to "deepen the sanitary blockages, the search for people with febrile symptoms, added to actions of scrapping, sensitization, awareness and fumigation with the municipalities" to avoid further contagion.

In La Plata, the local health authorities confirmed two new cases of native dengue, which amounts to four the number of people who contracted the disease in recent weeks.

The confirmation of the two recent cases after the medical studies carried out on these neighbors during the weekend, were located, like the other two, one in the town of Gorina and another in the urban area of the Buenos Aires capital.

They also said that the trend indicated that new patients can be registered in the next few days, which led to deepening the "focus action" measures, based on fumigation.
