  • The police warned of eating a popular candy .
  • The product was distributed to people at carnival .
  • The confectionery contains extremely dangerous small parts.

Gießen - The Mittelhessen police have issued a recall . On Shrove Tuesday, sweets that could contain metal shavings were distributed as part of the carnival parade in Laubach-Freienseen. These are white, approximately twelve by twelve centimeter plastic bags without printing (see photo above). There are eight wine gums in the plastic bags. The confectionery may contain metal chips (as can also be seen in the photo).

Recall by the police: "Under no circumstances should the sweets be consumed!"

There are currently no indications that the bags have been tampered with. So far, no injuries have been reported to the police. Investigations are ongoing into the origin of the gums and the cause of metal chips ending up in the candy. Affected persons are asked to contact the police station in Grünberg on 06401/91430 and to hand over the corresponding bags with the wine gums there.

The case is reminiscent of a recall from last year. At that time, a two-centimeter-long, thin and flexible metal fragment was found in a candy variety - here too there was a risk of injury . The product was warned in Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein .

Candy Recall: More Cases of Drastic Warnings

There was also a recall for possible red plastic particles in a chocolate chip cookie . A warning was given against eating the "Biscotto American Cookies". These are 225-gram packs with a best-before date of May 24, 2020.

And in another case, sweets suddenly became a potential danger: As a precaution, a company that produces fruit gums, marshmallows, hard caramels and chewing gums recalled a “hard caramel with play value”. This is a lollipop that is popular with children - in production, a technical defect is said to have caused small parts to become detached that represent a “danger potential” for children.
