In the province of Messina and in other Italian locations, the carabinieri of the Provincial Command of the city of the Strait and the ROS arrested 59 people accused, for various reasons, of mafia association, association aimed at drug trafficking, drug dealing, extortion, detention and port illegal arms, violence and threats, crimes aggravated by the mafia method.
The operation, called "Dinastia", arises from an investigation by the DDA of Messina , led by the prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia, on the mafia "family" of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, a clan historically linked to Cosa Nostra Palermitana. The investigation led to the arrest of affiliates and wingmen of the Barcelona gang who in recent years has invested heavily in the drug trafficking sector to supplement the illicit gains from extortion.
