What if we had a makeover at Quai Branly this weekend?

The Musée des arts premiers organizes the “Week-End Beautés” event on the occasion of the exhibition Helena Rubinstein, the queen of cosmetics.

Create a shampoo or even toothpaste based on natural materials from Brazil, perform a facial treatment based on Moroccan products with a lemon steam bath and mask with natural clay, in a large museum that you can visit in same time ? This is what the Quai Branly-Jacques-Chirac offers with its “Beauties Weekend”.

“Beauties” in the plural because all the free activities - on-site registration, first come, first served - are aimed at both men and women, and are concerned with self-care, body care, well-being on the different continents covered by the museum, from Africa to the Americas and Oceania via Asia.

Rubinstein, cosmetics for all

"The aim is to make the museum discover differently and to attract those who do not usually go there, as a family, as a couple or alone," explains Sandy Pasquarelli, mediation officer who concocted this weekend around the exhibition dedicated to Helena Rubinstein (1872-1965).

Born in a very poor Jewish ghetto in Poland, emigrating to Australia, England, France and then the United States, this visionary woman led a cosmetic empire. She was the first to want to make beauty available to everyone, but also to all, by opening the first men's beauty salon in New York in 1948.

Lomi Lomi massage and Indian creams

She was also one of the very few collectors of her time, whose museum presents masterpieces of African and Oceanic art. Other beauty masks… The curator of the expo will visit her in person, podcasts and projections are offered at different places, many short activities - from 30 to 45 minutes - will allow you to discover the history of cosmetics through the world.

Helena Rubinstein, who had started by making her own creams herself, was very much in tune with the times… We can see the diversity of use of Indian spices or even try a Lomi Lomi Hawaiian massage. Really ? Well, we stay dressed, we can do it sitting. And the practitioner will explain to the participants how to massage each other in groups of two. A very Zen museum.

“Weekend beauties” at the musée du quai Branly-Jacques-Chirac (Paris VII). All activities are free, registration on site from 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Entrance to the museum is free on Sunday but not Saturday (7-10 €).
