'More negative than expected impact on Windows and Surface' (ANSA)

Microsoft corrected revenue estimates for the current quarter downwards due to the coronavirus outbreak on the More Personal Computing division, which includes the Windows operating system, the Bing search engine, and hardware products such as Surface computers and the console Xbox. The company said in a statement, explaining that Windows and Surface are suffering "a greater negative impact than previously expected".

On January 29, Microsoft had estimated the division's revenues between 10.75 and 11.15 billion for the first three months of 2020, with a "wider than normal range to reflect the uncertainty associated with the health situation in China", reads in the note. "Even though we see strong Windows demand, in line with our expectations, the supply chain is returning to normal operations at a slower pace than previously expected." For this reason, "we do not expect to meet our forecasts" for the current quarter.
