FLORENCE - The restoration of the 'Terrace of Juno', a room adjacent to the Hall of the Elements of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, was completed in which Verrocchio's 'Putto with dolphin' was repositioned, also restored in recent months. The works, which cost around 60 thousand euros, were presented today. The Juno Terrace, completed in 1557, looks like a modest-sized room, but it is so called because it was originally a loggia with columns that overlooked the north-eastern side of the city.
It was subsequently closed following expansion of the building. From the last century, it has been explained, it has hosted the famous Putto del Verrocchio, the icon of Palazzo Vecchio, the masterpiece of one of the most important artistic personalities of the Florentine 15th century.
The frescoes on the Juno terrace had extensive repaintings, numerous reconstructions and drafts of various types of glues and resins, the result of previous restoration work. A cleaning intervention was therefore necessary, preceded by the preconsolidation of the decoese flakes, financed by Friends of Florence. The Putto del Verrocchio restored last year on the occasion of the exhibition in Florence on Verrocchio has also returned to its place. The lighting system in the hall has also been completely revised. (HANDLE).
