Pensions: Assembly rejects right of censure motion

2020-03-03T22:51:11.383Z

The National Assembly rejected on Tuesday evening the right of censure motion against the government of Edouard Philippe, which resorted to 49-3 to put the pension reform project at first reading. This first motion, before examining a second tabled by the left, garnered 148 votes. This total, announced to the perch the president of the Assembly Richard Ferrand (LREM), is much lower than the 289 votes - the absolute majority of the deputies - which would have been necessary to overthrow the government.

The chairman of the deputies LR Damien Abad had asked earlier for censorship to sanction an " unprecedented parliamentary fiasco " on this reform which will make the French the " big losers " and for which the Prime Minister activated the 49-3. To the LR votes were added in particular those of the Insoumis, although in " complete disagreement " with the proposals of the right, in particular a reduction in the retirement age. But " all legal, peaceful means are good for saying" no "to this government, to this president ", justified their speaker François Ruffin.

The socialists did not vote for the motion, " the opposite of what we wear " according to Olivier Faure (PS). Likewise for the Communists, who initially planned to vote for it, but changed their minds in the light of " sectarianism " and the " retreat of this project for the employees ", in the words of their spokesperson Sébastien Jumel. A majority of the group Liberties and Territories and some UDI-Agir had however planned to vote for the right motion.
