There could be no more explicit title: Punk, the new documentary produced by the rock iguana his majesty Iggy Pop and by the stylist friend John Varvatos, which traces the history of the genre that revolutionized music in the late seventies. Present names of the caliber of: John Lydon of the Sex Pistols, Marky Ramone of the Ramones, Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys and the co-founders of the Blondie Debbie Harry and Chris Stein.
One year after the debut in the United States, Punk, the cult series produced by the ex Stooges frontman Iggy Pop, finally arrives in Italy from March 4, in first-run on Sky Arte (Sky channel 120 and 400) which explores the various aspects of the scene of the beginning of the most controversial movement of the twentieth century: the historical context, music, fashion, art, the relationship between artists and the record industry, the correlation between music and politics and especially the effects of punk on future generations. Each episode focuses on an individual era of punk, from the proto-punk of the sixties to the present day.
To produce the series together with Iggy Pop is his friend John Varvatos, fashion designer and super music lover, who launched his own label John Varvatos Records. Varvatos said of Punk: "Exploring and reliving the history of punk has been a real work of love for me. The punk's ability to transcend generations in its culture, music and style is a story that needs to be told. So … let's do it!".
The series, divided into four parts, will be an opportunity not to be missed to retrace the fundamental stages of punk through interviews with the big names of the music scene of the 70s. There will also be testimonials from Dave Grohl, Flea or the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Duff McKagan, the bassist of the Guns N 'Roses. The series aims to show the importance and influence also of characters of the music scene of the time such as Danny Fields, head of Elektra Records, of Legs McNeil famous music critic and director Penelope Spheeris.
The first episode tells the proto-punk scene of Detroit which, thanks to bands like Stooges and MC5, was of inspiration for the New Yorker one and for the musicians who were preparing to populate it in the early seventies - such as New York Dolls and Ramones -, triggering a fuse that would have led to a real sound revolution
