The day after the tension, Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and French Ambassador to Italy Christian Masset greeted each other with a warm handshake. The two met in a well-known pizzeria in the center of Rome at the invitation of Di Maio after the case of the satirical video aired in recent days by the French TV channel Canal +. The episode had provoked Italy's protests. The removal of the French embassy and the apology of the French broadcaster followed.
"It's the friendship pizza and I thank the minister for inviting me to eat one of the best pizzas there are," Masset said before entering the club. Di Maio did not release statements to the press. In the pizzeria the two ate a taste of pizza 'in portfolio' before sitting down at the table.
"We are continuing to monitor the Coronavirus emergency and what we have to do is also limit the negative effects on our economy and our entrepreneurs. Yesterday a French TV broadcast a video that offended Italian pizza and our country. To respond to that shameful image, today in the company of the French ambassador to Italy, which I thank, we ate a good Neapolitan pizza together, one of the Italian excellence that the whole world envies us ". Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio writes on Facebook, who underlines: "Now stop the controversy, let's defend our products, our qualities, our Made in Italy with all our strength".
