HERCULANEUM - Maintenance work continues on the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum aimed at restoring domus and sites in their splendor to the public. After lengthy restoration operations, the facade of the Casa dei Cervi became visible and the original route connecting the terrace of Marco Nonio Balbo to the urban center of the ancient Herculaneum was returned. The technical and scientific staff of the Park, who in collaboration with the Herculaneum Conservation Project, carried out an extraordinary maintenance operation on the plasters dating back to the period of the direction of Amedeo Maiuri and on the oldest ones of the Roman age, operating in situ about to detach and end up on the ground. '' In the Casa dei Cervi an extraordinary maintenance was carried out on all the plasters and the oblique canopy was dismantled which had been positioned to prevent the plasters from falling and endangering visitors '' explains the director of the Archaeological Park of Ercolano , Francesco Sirano. The domus can be visited no earlier than April 3 since the archaeological site, like all museum sites in Italy, is closed due to the disposition of the 'anti-contagion' decree by coronavirus. The Casa dei Cervi, buried during the eruption of 79 AD is one of the most renowned domus of the Roman age and takes its name from the discovery of two statues of deer attacked by dogs in the garden that overlooked the sea; next to them are a drunken Hercules and the satyr with wineskin. An important restoration was carried out on the mosaic floor last July. Here expert restorers cleaned the white mosaic and colored marble flakes in the cryptoporticus that characterizes the house with a sponge and subsequently closed the cracks by pouring compact mortar on them and finished the work by passing them again a dry sponge to give you new splendor. Meanwhile, a few weeks ago the deadline for submitting offers on the works to access the Antica Spiaggia expired. The tender, managed by Invitalia for almost 3.3 million euros, involves redevelopment works to connect the Archaeological Park to the Ancient Beach and integrate the Villa dei Papiri in the visit path, allowing visitors to appreciate the sea front of the ancient city
