Covid-19: How Field Doctors Get Ready

In small French municipalities, health centers are organizing to cope with a possible influx of patients infected with the new

In the war against the new coronavirus, it can count double the advance. While the entire French territory is affected by the Covid-19, we are therefore organizing in certain regions less affected than others for potential "battles" to come. In the countryside, where the patients seem to be less numerous than in the agglomerations, the liberal doctors, who are in first line, took the lead.

This is the case in Ille-et-Vilaine, in Saint-Gilles, 4,716 inhabitants, where a health center has set itself in battle order for a possible "wave" of patients infected with Covid-19. Several doctors and health professionals based in the village have come together.

"We posed all together, and we wondered what we could do to welcome suspect cases, and the others," says one of them, Dr. Vincent Jaquinandi, joined by the Parisian.

“We didn't want to mix the patients,” explains the practitioner. General practitioners are in a common building. The physiotherapists, who have completely stopped their activity, have made their offices available for suspicious patients and others ”.

"The main waiting room has been condemned and each of the cabinets has an exterior entrance," he continues. Thus organized, the small team made patients wait outside, in their car, before picking them up one by one.

“We don't have access to the Covid-19 tests. If we have suspicions for a patient with an aggravating factor, we call 15 and we also have a direct line with the CHU of Rennes, ”further specifies the doctor to the Parisian. “We have had only one worrying case so far, a patient in her thirties. We transferred her to the CHU and we are awaiting a return on her case. ”

"We had a lot of donations"

The population, who mixes rural and recent arrivals from Rennes, located about fifteen minutes by car, welcomed this initiative led by a general practitioner of the village, Dr Sébastien Mallard. This reception even materialized.

"We had a lot of donations, all the equipment available is linked to these donations", thanks Dr Jaquinandi, who also works at the University Hospital of Rennes. In this context of solidarity, the physiotherapists and the speech-language pathologist will even participate in the telephone watch next weekend.

The town hall also supports the movement. By municipal decree, the over 65s are totally confined, and food is delivered to their homes. Signs pointing to the health center have also been put in place.

"We try to organize the answer, but we live day by day," says the doctor, however, without alarmism. We are waiting, the ARS called us on Monday to find out if we were ready. We are. We are waiting for a wave to arrive in one day! "

"Unclog emergencies"

In the Southwest, other liberal doctors testify to the establishment of the same type of structure.

So a team of LIBERAUX with the help of the town halls of the villages set up a Covid Consultation Center in THREE DAYS. With medical permanence (doctor, IDE, physiotherapists, etc.), organized tours, link between all.

Dr. Philippe Roux, who practices in the small Gers commune of Samatan, 2,377 inhabitants, reminds the public that his colleagues and liberal health professionals are on the front line without financial considerations. “The IDEs (state-certified nurses) have started to make a kitty to pay for the overcoats, overshoes and stuff that the state is not fucked up to provide us. I would like that after that, we stop saying that the public service is the hospital and that the Liberals are the money! ", He launches on Twitter.

Near Salon-de-Provence, this same device was adopted to receive a potential "wave", according to this doctor from Bouches-du-Rhône. "This will avoid clogging up the emergencies," he explains.
