Complete a closure now - or the price will be unbeatable Israel today

The Treasury's wartime war demanding a full closure could cost a horrendous price in human life, unseen in state history. • If they do not take the necessary steps urgently - thousands of patients may die in agony as a result of hospital flooding and respiratory failure.

This is the first moral duty of the nation and there is no choice: Israel must enter full closure and fully transition to the economy in an emergency.

It was a critical necessity to do so early this week, when the health ministry's leadership demanded it from the government, and the Treasury continued to press (and continues today) not to. In doing so, he thinks that he will reduce the severe damage to the economy, but he could cause a horrific damage not yet seen in the history of the country.

Only a complete closure will give a chance, which is also uncertain, to moderate and slow the pace of the Corona epidemic. In this way, the rate of arrival of very difficult patients to hospitals can be moderated, which, God forbid, can collapse if there are up to tens of thousands of patients in desperate need of respirators and their fatal illness.

The Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Itamar Grotto, said this week that the country had ordered too late to isolate Israelis returning from abroad, even when Israel was in the pre-aggravated countries in the world.

Lose the lead

According to Grotto, even the sharp daily increase in patients, including those in severe condition, can be attributed to the return of many Israelis to Israel before they were forced to go into isolation.

Until a week ago, it could be said that the top of the Ministry of Health, headed by CEO Moshe Bar Seaman Tov, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself, have been managing well, responsibly, thoughtfully and devotedly to the worst global health crisis in a century. Israel has a critical strategic advantage, moving forward a large part of the world's countries, including rich, strong and large Western countries, but since then much of the world's countries have infected Israel, and we are losing - and, worse, already wasting our advantage. God forbid, in scenarios similar to what is happening in Italy.

Until now, one of the problems that emerged in crisis management was the lack of tests for Corona. The problem is not only the shortage of test kits (which now have endless international demand), but the stubborn policy of some of the top ministry of health, which - for some reason - thought there was no need to rush and do mass checks for anyone. As a result, the Ministry of Health prevented for one week the establishment of "check-and-run" complexes under the management of MDA, in which about 10,000 Israelis were already scheduled to be tested every day. Only earlier this week was the Ministry of Health under the pressure of Netanyahu and began a massive increase in inspections, which will result in collection Critical information for mapping the spread of the epidemic in Israel by region, locality and population concentration - and facilitate the attempts to mitigate the spread of the corona.

However, even if the tests are increased to tens of thousands of tests a day, they cannot now replace the urgent need for complete isolation of the entire state and the ban on leaving homes (except, as usual, for essential needs). The Ministry of Health defines the fight against the virus as "war," and the day before Prof. Grotto said that their fear was from such a large number of dead that would exceed the number of people killed in all Israeli wars. Prof. Grotto added that the world after the Corona may be very different from the pre-global epidemic, much like the world after each of the world wars of the last century. no less.

In the treasury do not internalize

However, it seems that this harsh and poignant message has not yet been internalized in the Ministry of Finance, and even the Minister of Health, Jacob Litzman, does not always seem to have internalized it. The Ministry of Health has no choice but to return and demand a complete closure, including the prohibition of opening synagogues and the mikvahs. It is time for Litzman to call out to the public, including the entire ultra-Orthodox public, to heed the Ministry of Health and the Law. The fact that the minister's voice is not publicly heard against the mass violations of a handful of ultra-Orthodox quarantine is a bad sign of Litzman and his problematic role as minister responsible for our health.

The Ministry of Finance has so far tried to curb the total closure of the lifesaver and he has, unfortunately, managed to delay and reduce the full closure. But the Treasury now has a different role to play in maintaining the public's resilience, which in itself is part of the state's drug arsenal against the epidemic. The fight against the spread of the virus should not only rest on public isolation, but also on strong social and economic infrastructure. The Ministry of Finance and the government must take into account economic and social resilience, and prepare to assist and compensate the victims of the crisis very broadly and continuously. They should announce this as soon as possible to reduce the economic and social anxiety that could hurt itself in the war against the Corona. This is in order for the public to accept, and follow, the harsh and unusual provisions of the closure.

There is also an immediate need for an economic program that will compensate and help the general public to cure the severe economic damage that the virus is spreading. This must be the Treasury's contribution to the Corona fight, not attempts to curb the closure that could save tens of thousands of patients.
