Coronavirus: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson return to the United States

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson returned to the United States two weeks after being diagnosed with coronavirus while in Australia.


On March 10, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson surprised the entire world by revealing that they had both been diagnosed with coronavirus while in Australia.

After tests for the couple yielded positive COVID-19 results , the actor and singer had to take quarantine measures to avoid spreading the virus. Hanks and Wilson were later released from the hospital to continue isolation from their home in Australia.

After a long process and being the first celebrities to be diagnosed with coronavirus, Tom and Rita recovered two weeks after their initial diagnosis, and they are both back in the United States.

As reported by E! News , the couple appeared on the streets of Los Angeles traveling in a car, after recovering and flying in their private jet from Australia to return home. The paparazzi caught the actor in his car with his wife, both in casual clothing.

Hours later, the actor turned to his Twitter account to share the news and thank Australian doctors for their care.

"Hello, friends. We are at home now, and like the rest of the United States, we are still protected and socially distant," wrote the famous on the social network.

"Many, many thanks to everyone who did not care in Australia. Your care and guidance made our return to the United States possible. And many thanks to all who came with good wishes. Rita and I greatly appreciated it," he added.

The couple was traveling in Australia to participate in the production of the next biographical film about Elvis Presley directed by Baz Luhrmann , in which Hanks will act as the representative of the musical idol.

The actor and his wife began to feel ill, and upon evaluation they were found to be infected. Both are 63 years old, and are considered to be in the high-risk group among those affected.

In the same way, Luhrmann, director of the film, and his family also went into quarantine after learning of Hanks' diagnosis, and mainly as a precaution.

Before Tom shared the news about the results of his and his wife's coronavirus, the Warner Bros company released a statement.

"We have been informed that a member of our Elvis feature film company, which is currently in pre-production in Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus)," the statement read.

"We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have been in direct contact with this person."

In conclusion, Warner Bros noted: "The health and safety of our company members are always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works at our productions around the world. The person who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment. "
