"We did not make a proposal to the Commission, but to the Eurogroup to elaborate it. There is an ongoing debate. But here is an appointment with history and everyone must live up to it". This was stated by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at a press conference at Palazzo Chigi, commenting on the Commission's no to coronabonds. "I will not go down in history for those who have not fought: I will fight to the end for a European solution".

"Von Der Leyen's words" about Coronabonds "are wrong." The one indicated in the letter of the nine European heads of state "is the most appropriate response for a symmetrical shock on the economy and everyone must be up to the challenge, even the president of the European Commission". Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieri says this during a press conference at Palazzo Chigi.

In the coronavirus crisis, the European Commission does not plan to issue its own debt bonds. This was stated by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with the Dpa. "There are clear legal boundaries on this, and there is no plan. We don't work on this," he said. Von der Leyen also stresses that "the word coronabond is only a sort of slogan. Behind it lies the great question of guarantees. And on this the reservations of Germany as well as of other countries are justified".

"I don't want a selfish and divided Europe": says the French President, Emmanuel Macron, in an interview reported by the AFP agency in which he stresses that "France is alongside Italy". "We will not overcome this crisis - says Macron - without strong European solidarity, in terms of health and finance". "Are the EU and the euro zone reduced to a monetary institution and a set of rules that allow each state to act on its own? Or do we act together to finance our expenses, our needs in this vital crisis? ".
