Saturday 28 March at 20.30 Earth Hour returns, the worldwide mobilization of the WWF - launched for the first time in 2007 - which invites you to turn off the lights for an hour of the main monuments and homes to raise awareness publishes on the climate crisis and global warming. Earth Hour 2020 arrives at the height of the Covid-19 emergency, which imposes extraordinary security measures on all Italian citizens and those of many other countries. And then the event will be digital. From the early hours of the morning, photos and videos of the shutdowns of the symbolic places of the main cities of the world will be broadcast on the web and social channels of WWF Italia with the hashtags #EartHour #UnOraPerItalia.

" The Hour of the Earth this year will be different from the usual - states the president of the WWF Italy, Donatella Bianchi - Unfortunately, there will be no joyful squares and popular events but there will still be a strong voice asking to reverse the course by aiming decisively our bow towards a sustainable future. The key word of Earth Hour this year is 'together'. Together we can win the challenge that our country, with the whole planet is facing against an unprecedented health emergency. Together we can fight against the ongoing climate change that endangers the health of the earth as well as our human health. Together - continues Bianchi - we can ask the institutions, the economy and individuals to take responsibility for the future, concretely implementing the Paris agreement on climate and committing together for a New Deal for People and Nature that writes new rules for our relationship with the planet ".
For this reason, WWF Italia has decided to transform the usual street party into a large digital activation that aims to involve as many citizens as possible in the fight against climate change: "An hour for the earth, an hour for Italy is the title of the marathon of turning off the light in which all citizens can participate by posting on their social profiles the video of their day for the climate with the hastags #EarthHour #UnOraPerItalia ".
Even in this emergency situation, Earth Hour 2020 was awarded the President of the Republic Medal in recognition of the value of the event. Earth Hour 2020 also had the patronage of the Senate of the Republic, the Chamber of Deputies, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities).
