Every day, Le Parisien takes action to answer your questions about the coronavirus. Guillaume, a member of the nursing staff, lives 30 kilometers from the hospital where he works. He wonders "if home-work trips by bicycle are authorized and if there is a time-distance limit? "
During confinement, the use of bicycles is prohibited for leisure or sporting activities. On the other hand, it is authorized as a means of transport, in particular to go to his place of work, provided that he is in possession of a correctly completed exemption certificate as well as proof of professional travel.
During his television intervention on Monday, the Prime Minister clarified which trips were authorized, and under what conditions. Thus, leisure outings (stroll with children, sport) must be limited to one hour maximum, within a radius of one kilometer around the home.
Home-work journeys are not limited in distance
On the other hand, journeys between home and the workplace are not affected by these restrictions. It is possible, for example, to take the train for a business trip.
But this is only possible "insofar as the activity cannot be organized in the form of telework, or if the trip cannot be postponed", specifies the Ministry of the Interior, requested by Le Parisien.
In the case of Guillaume, a caregiver in a hospital, his function justifies a long trip to get to his place of work.
