Equipped with coveralls, gloves and masks and behind a tank vehicle, the cleaning agents of the metropolis of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) began on March 27 a vast operation of disinfection of streets and urban furniture to fight against spread of the coronavirus epidemic. They use a virucidal product to European standards, safe for human health and 80% biodegradable.
Started near hospitals, in the main metro stations and in the streets of the city center, this massive disinfection will be extended this week to outlying municipalities with around twenty vehicles in all.
An effective detergent in one hour
“The product we distribute, a detergent used in the food industry, is effective in one hour against avian flu viruses. We plan to treat the main crossing points, such as the forecourt of Saint-Charles station for example, once or twice a week, ”explains Fabrice Bardisa, responsible for the cleanliness of the Marseille-Provence area. “It is not the 1,200 km of tracks in Marseille that will be disinfected, but the strategic points where there is the most traffic. We will then take stock after fifteen days of treatment. "
In addition to the pavement, posts, benches, trash cans or fountains, all the street furniture is sprayed with this product which is also effective against bacteria. 900 waste containers are now also disinfected daily, a way of protecting Marseille garbage collectors who continue to work despite the Covid-19 epidemic with a modified tour system.
