(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 30 - A painting by Van Gogh has been stolen from the Dutch museum Singer Laren. The theft took place at 3.15 am on Sunday. A glass door of the SingerLaren museum - which was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic - was buried by thieves, while agents intervened after the burglar alarm went off. But once they reached the postonon they could do nothing but ascertain the theft. The artist's work, "Rectory garden in Nuenen in spring", was lent by the Groninger museum, also in Holland, specifies De Telegraaf. The museum director, Jan Rudolph deLorm, said he was "shocked and angry": "It is a very beautiful and moving painting by one of our greatest painters, stolen from the community". In 1883 and 1884 Van Gogh was with his parents in Nuenen, where his father officiated in the church, depicted in the painting, as a Protestant pastor and the artist created the painting as a gift for his mother. Upon his father's death, in 1885, Vincent modified the painting.
