(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, MARCH 31 - The archaeological area of OstiaAntica becomes European historical and cultural heritage. This was announced by the EU Commission, which has awarded ten European Union sites, from Poland to Portugal, with the 'European Marriage Mark'. These places "offer all European citizens a great chance to get closer to their cultural heritage and strengthen their sense of belonging to the EU", said the European Commissioner responsible for culture, Mariya Gabriel, in a statement.
The sites were selected by a jury of independent experts. With the addition of today's 10, the number of European brand holders rises to 48, including the Forte di Cadine (Trento) and the Casa Alcide de Gasperi museum (Pieve Tesino). Unlike the Unesco world heritage sites, these sites (whose selection began in 2013) are considered important for European history and culture, not only from an aesthetic point of view. (HANDLE).
