The coronavirus pandemic, and the ensuing confinement, also hit students hard. The Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal, announced on Tuesday that "10 million euros more" will be allocated to finance specific emergency aid allocated by the Regional Centers for University Works (Crous). The minister wants, by this measure, to ensure "that no student in need is left out".
Since the start of confinement, the university residences managed by the Crous have remained open to accommodate students who were unable to reach their families' homes, as they were invited to do.
“Following on from the first decisions taken at the start of the crisis, the ministry is mobilizing […] to find concrete solutions to the difficulties encountered by students, often aggravated by the current situation, especially for those who, due to confinement , have lost a student job or an internship, "wrote the Ministry of Higher Education in a press release.
In addition to the funding of “actions in favor of student health, this new use of the student life and campus contribution (CVEC) will be primarily allocated to the satisfaction of food needs, while university catering services had to be temporarily interrupted, in particular via food purchase cards or the funding of social and solidarity groceries, "continues the ministry.
It will also be assigned "to the financing of IT tools or Internet access […] and to financially support students who had, before the crisis, a student job or a gratified internship on which they depended to meet their needs".
The ministry also stresses "special attention paid to students with disabilities or who have health problems, as well as international students who may be more isolated than others".
