It was two weeks ago, day for day: Tuesday March 17, France returned to confinement. Since then, the number of people infected with the new coronavirus has continued to increase. Just like the number of deaths, but also that of the patients cured.
This Monday evening, the official report of the Directorate General of Health (DGS), set out by Jérôme Salomon, its director, reports 499 new deaths in hospitals in the past 24 hours, or 3523 dead to date in France. It is the worst daily report since the beginning of the epidemic. The deaths in the nursing homes have still not been communicated.
The total number of people hospitalized now stands at 22,757. Among these patients, 5,565 serious cases require very heavy intensive care. That's 458 more in 24 hours.
