These are tough times for the advertising industry, but that doesn't stop business. Evidenced by the operation announced overnight from Monday to Tuesday by JCDecaux, which took a minority stake (23%) in Clear Media Limited, the largest bus shelter operator in mainland China (57,000 bus shelters in the 25 largest cities).
It is the first time that the French group, world number one in outdoor advertising, sketches a piece of its eternal rival, the American Clear Channel Outdoor, number two in the sector. The latter, which seeks to deleverage, launched a strategic review of its subsidiaries outside the United States last November. Clear Media was 51% controlled by the American group.
The operation allows the company controlled by the Decaux family to strengthen in China, already its first market since 2018, which represents 15% of its turnover and on which it has concluded numerous partnerships via joint ventures with licensors
