VIDEO. Raptoonn: the Instagram account that mixes rap and cartoons

2020-03-31T17:45:32.262Z

Aya Nakamura, Booba, JUL, NTM… two students wonderfully mix the hip-hop sound of rap stars with the images of the greatest cartoons

Frozen interpreting “Dja Dja” by Aya Nakamura, NTM taken over by Pumbaa, Simba's accomplice in “Lion King” or even Baloo dancing on “la Moulaga” by rapper Heuss L'Enfoiré… These delirious clips, calibrated to the millimeter up close, were born thanks to Emil and Grégoire, two students in audiovisual masters in Paris. They created the “Raptoonn” account on December 15, on Instagram.

"These are short videos made with sequences of cartoons, posed on rap choruses that we love" explains Emil, 27, who grew up in Grenoble. "It is the discrepancy between the lyrics of the rap and the images of cartoons that amuses us" specifies Grégoire, 27, who comes from Évreux in Normandy.

It was during a discussion around a burger that the idea germinated in the heads of the two students. “We were already making somewhat similar videos, each in our corner. We thought it would be good to get started more seriously, with a real web page, ”says Grégoire.

Their challenge at the start was to attract Booba so that he subscribed to Raptoonn on Instagram. The rapper had around 4 million followers at the time. "We thought we would stop the day he actually followed us." Except that in the meantime the Duke of Boulogne has closed his account.

But the singer still "reposted" one of their video, at the very beginning, designed with one of his flagship titles "Payday" on images of Olaf, the snowman from "The Snow Queen", "Indeed, he posted a capture, but without making a direct distribution" they apologize in unison. "It was at the very beginning, it still brought us a lot of followers" continues Grégoire.

The publication rate is two videos per week, Sunday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. sharp. "There is no reason why it should change, we want to stay regular, even during confinement," says Emil.

The growing success of Raptoonn could cause them some concerns with the artists, especially on the issue of copyright. "It's assumed, we don't do any business with these videos, it's just for fun" confirms Emil, who if necessary will suggest to the rights holder to delete the problematic video. It would be a shame to get there as these videos are so entertaining, which is precious in these times of confinement.
