Netflix, Amazon, MyCanal, OCS, and soon Disney +… Are you a bit lost in the content of the various platforms, and have a little trouble making choices among all the new features? Le Parisien helps you find your way. At the beginning of each month, we present you the new series expected. Here is the program for April.

NETFLIX

"Community", seasons 1 to 6

Removed from the bar, ex-lawyer Jeff Winger must graduate from Community College in Greendale in order to hope to resume his career. In this public university with no means, he formed a study group with the pretty Britta, the very serious Annie, Shirley, a divorced mother, Abed, a cinema enthusiast, Troy, former football star of his high school, and the septuagenarian Pierce. A cult comedy among lovers of series, thanks to its quirky humor and its multiple references to popular culture. Certain conceptual episodes (in camera or in the form of a video game for example) are real writing jewels.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 5/5

Seasons 1 to 6, available April 1.

"La Casa de Papel", season 4

We take the bets, season 4 of the Spanish series will still turn everything. "La Casa de Papel" is back and an army of confined fans awaits it like the messiah. Did Nairobi survive? Raquel will she hold out during his muscular custody? Get your plaid, one of the most anticipated events of the year in terms of TV series, is now. Let aficionados be reassured, in the first four episodes that we have been able to watch, Alvaro Morte, the mythical Professor, and Ursula Corbero, the sexyssime Tokyo, have roles that are widely highlighted. And the action scenes, humor and music are ultra-present.

There is a little bit of "Goonies" in this new series for teens ... In the role of the father of two of the group's young people, businessman and local figure, we find Charles Esten, one of our darlings of the series "Nashville" (season 6 available thanks to the replay of Série Club on MyCanal).

Just over a year after the first season, Ricky Gervais is back with the sequel to "After Life". In this series, which he himself created, the British comedian plays Tony, a journalist whose wife died of breast cancer. Decided to make the world pay for this loss, it becomes execrable by no longer taking into account the feelings or reactions of anyone ... before realizing at the end of season 1 that he himself would fall into depression if he continued on this path. Nothing to do with "Casa de Papel". This Mexican series is a dark comedy about a family of florists full of secrets. "My first times", season 1

The actress Mindy Kaling, seen in "The Office" and to whom we owe the very nifty series "The Mindy Project", is at the helm of this initiatory comedy inspired by her own adolescence. The heroine is therefore an American teenager of Indian origin, Devi, who, in addition to facing the usual problems of young people of her age, must also take on her cultural differences. But even if she prays to Krishna or Ganesh, Devi dreams above all of having a boyfriend! A teenage romantic comedy that promises to be as funny as it is tender.

"Tales from the Loop"

These "Loop Tales" are those lived by the inhabitants of a mysterious village, located just above an underground scientific installation. La Boucle is a giant, mysterious artefact, about which we know very little, except that it has an impact on space, time and the characters who live near it ... Saving in action and in dialogue , but with a superb photograph, the series is inspired by the paintings of a Swedish artist, Simon Stalenhag. Like them, the series poses more questions than it answers. What is the Loop? Why these seemingly useless robots or futuristic objects in the background? Besides, at what time does the plot really take place? So many questions that spark the vision of this beautiful series as ambitious as it is introspective.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

Season 1, available April 3.

"An island"

A community in distress, suspicious deaths and the myth of sirens in the background. "Une île" (broadcast on Arte at the beginning of the year) is a daring series with Laetitia Casta, 41, a stranger found naked in a drifting boat. Prize for the best French series at the last Séries Mania festival in March 2019, “Une île” seduced us thanks to its very beautiful cast - with Sergi Lopez and the young Noée Abita and Alba Gaïa Bellugi -, but bewildered by its intriguing rhythm very slow.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3/5

Available April 14.

"Superstore", seasons 1 to 4

Jonah undergoes a job interview to be employed in a supermarket of the Cloud 9 chain. He goes on the wrong steps, insulting in particular without knowing the one who will be his boss. This is interpreted by America Ferrera, who signs her return to the small screen in a main role, after playing the title role of "Ugly Betty" (2006-2010). Too nice at first, the “Superstore” series takes a bit of time to find its cruising speed, towards the end of the first season, and take us away completely afterwards.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

Available April 15.

"Bosch", season 6

After five seasons with a lively atmosphere and unrivaled suspense, Harry Bosch is back. The solitary inspector of the LAPD - formidable interpreted by Titus Welliver, traumatized by an unhappy childhood, with muscular methods but with a soft gaze and unbeatable flair, was imagined in his successful detective novels by the American Michael Connelly, also co-scriptwriter of series. In this new season, he must, with his colleagues, simply save his city of Los Angeles, threatened by a terrorist who threatens to detonate a “dirty bomb” chemical, taking all its inhabitants, including those close to Bosch, as hostages… An intrigue that promises in terms of tension…

"The prodigious friend", season 2

Finally, here they are again! What a pleasure to find Lila and Elena, the two heroines of "The Prodigious Friend" in this season 2 as successful and exciting as the first. Faithful adaptation of the eponymous novel by Elena Ferrante, a literary phenomenon with millions of copies sold worldwide, the Italian series immerses us in Naples in the 1960s. The two protagonists are now young women and Lila, who has just marry, tries to adapt to his new life. We devoured this series like the book.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4.5 / 5

Season 2, available April 2.

"The Office of Legends", season 5

With each new season of the "Bureau des légendes", there is a little twinge in the heart. Will they hold out in length? Let the lovers of the series be reassured, the fifth is just as excellent as the others. We will not spoil anything by telling you that we always find there with so much pleasure, Mathieu Kassovitz, alias Malotru, Sara Giraudeau (Marina Loiseau), Jonathan Zaccaï (Raymond Sisteron), or Mathieu Amalric (JJA), they are on the poster of the series!

EDITOR'S NOTE: 5/5

Season 5, available April 6.

"American Gods", season 2

The war between the old and the new gods is declared in the second season of "American Gods", which arrives on MyCanal, and is still available on Amazon Prime Video. The Traveler, who is in fact the god Odin, tries to convince other deities to follow him in his fight. He is always accompanied by Ombre Moon, a former prisoner who finds himself immersed in this fantastic world which he must accept as a reality. Less convoluted than season 1, this second part takes a more direct trajectory in its plot, but loses in poetry.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3.5 / 5

Season 2, available April 8.

"Killing Eve", season 3

Good surprise for fans of this female thriller, the BBC America channel, where is first broadcast "Killing Eve" in the United States, has decided to advance the launch of this third season by two weeks. Canal + will follow by putting the first episode on MyCanal online as of April 13, instead of the 27 as initially planned. We left MI6 agent Eve Polastri (played by the excellent Sandra Oh) for dead at the end of season 2. Villanelle, the hitman (played by the awesome Jodie Comer) no longer has of employer. The bonds which linked the two women seem to be broken. Until a death brings them together again ...

"Mrs America"

Australian actress Cate Blanchett, 50, plays the leading role in a series for the first time. In "Mrs America", she plays Phyllis Schlafly, anti-feminist and conservative activist in the 1970s where she led the movement against the ratification of the amendment aimed at guaranteeing equal rights between the sexes. In this historic mini-series in 10 episodes based on a true story, the actress is well surrounded. So in the credits: Uzo Aduba ("Orange Is The New Black"), James Marsden ("X-Men"), Sarah Paulson ("American Horror Story"), or John Slattery ("Mad Men").

"What We Do In The Shadows", season 2

The adventures of colocation vampires in New York resume. Resolutely offbeat, this series in the format of a fake documentary develops an absurd humor, which may not please everyone but is a hit with fans of the genre. At the end of season 1, Guillermo, the human servant of multicentennial vampires, discovered that he could be a descendant of Van Helsing, famous hunter of blood drinkers ... A rebound with comic springs then particularly well exploited.

"Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels"

Derived from the horrific series "Penny Dreadful" (available on Netflix), this variation called "City of Angels" takes place in Los Angeles in 1938, forty years after the action of its big sister. Daniel Zovatto ("Fear The Walking Dead") plays the city's first Mexican-born cop, who is confronted with supernatural forces. We also find in the credits the charismatic Natalie Dormer ("Game of Thrones", "Sherlock" ...) in the skin of a metamorphic demon. The series promises to delve into the American-Mexican cultural roots of the City of Angels.

NOT SEEN

Available April 27.

"The Pale Horse"

Here is a new adaptation of Agatha Christie by the British channel BBC, still with the same screenwriter at work: Sarah Phelps ("Dix Petits Nègres", "Témoin spam", "ABC contre Poirot" ...). "The Pale Horse", in only two parts, however, develops a plot quite different than these other fictions. Here, corpses are found successively without really making the link between them. Mark Easterbrook is trying to understand what happens when his name appears on a list found on the body of one of the victims. Rufus Sewell's interpretation is perfect, but the whole is a little too loose.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3/5

OCS

"Run"

Ruby and Billy were lovers when they were 19 and made a pact. If one of them one day sends the word "Run" by text to the other who responds with the same word, the two must leave everything to find themselves on a train leaving from New Station York, and run away together! More than fifteen years later, Ruby is in her car, in the parking lot of a supermarket when she receives a text: "Run". This series is a creation of Vicky Jones, longtime friend and collaborator of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of "Fleabag" and "Killing Eve". This romantic thriller with a spicy humor is wonderfully carried by its duet of actors: Merritt Wever ("Nurse Jackie", "Unbelievable") and Domhnall Gleeson ("Harry Potter", "Star Wars: the last Jedi).

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4.5 / 5

Available April 13.

"Insecure", season 4

What joy ! It is finally the great return of Issa Rae for a season 4 of the little American gem "Insecure". When the viewers left her, the 30-year-old led a more than chaotic love and sexual life. After squatting her ex's sofa and having been an Uber driver the previous season, will she manage to stabilize? In short, we wait impatiently for Issa Rae, also creator of the series. Hopefully the humorous formula from previous episodes still works as well.

Including new original series, fiction or documentaries, such as "High School Musical: the series", "The World according to Jeff Goldblum" and "The Mandalorian" ...

"The Mandalorian", season 1

Signed Jon Favreau ("Iron Man", "the Lion King"), eagerly awaited since its broadcast at the end of October in the United States, this series derived from "Star Wars" constitutes the bridgehead of the Disney + platform. Dedicated to a mercenary resembling Boba Fett, "The Mandalorian", which takes place after episode VI of the saga, takes place in a universe mixing science fiction and western, and notably stages Baby Yoda, who has become a mascot on social networks. Breathtaking, at the same time funny, moving, full of suspense and action, reviving the codes, the decorations, the spacecraft, the creatures and certain characters who made the legend of the original trilogy, this first season in 8 nervous episodes are completely addictive and dazzling.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 5/5

Season 1, available April 7

"High School Musical: the musical, the series"

After two world-famous TV movies and a film, Disney + is relaunching the “High School Musical” phenomenon with a frenzied series for teens. There are all the ingredients that made the success of the trilogy: great actors, love stories, an atmosphere of American high school and, of course, music and songs on all floors. Funny and lively, this series of which we have just seen the first two episodes will delight nostalgics. Shot in a “fake documentary” fashion with the actors who confide in front of the camera, it does a lot of good during this period of confinement. Be careful, it will dance and sing in thatched cottages!

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

Available April 7

"The World According to Jeff Goldblum", season 1

He is not only the actor of "La Mouche" or "Jurassic Park". Jeff Goldblum is also a musician and is now the star of a documentary series, "The World According to Jeff Goldblum". In each episode of the first season (a second one has already been ordered), the broadcast of which began in November 2019 in the United States, the artist is interested in a subject of consumer consumption. The first two parts are for example devoted to sneakers and ice cream. A light and funny program that can remind us of our “C'est pas sorcier” or “E = M 6” tricolor, the immense means of National Geographic, which produces, in addition.
