The statistical models illustrated today in the White House briefing on coronavirus predict that between 100,000 and 200,000 people will die in the US, with a peak in mid-April of more than 2000 people per day. "But we don't accept these numbers and hope to contain them if we all act together in accordance with the measures in place," said Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. According to the scientists, "the measures of social distancing work, as the case of Italy is showing, where the curve of the spread of the coronavirus begins to fall". As for the use of masks, for the US president "it certainly does not harm" but he advised to use for a certain period "a scarf or something else", such as a scarf. "We are producing millions of masks - he said - but we want them to go to hospitals". The US is also considering a ban on travel from Brazil and several other countries. California prison authorities plan to anticipate the release of some 3,500 nonviolent prisoners to help slow the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Meanwhile, coronavirus deaths have exceeded 42,000 worldwide, while cases of infection are now more than 855,000: this is what emerges from the updated data of John Hopkins University. 177,857 people have healed so far. According to the American university the deaths are 42,032 and the infected 855,007, of which over 20% (186,265) in the USA, that is to say the country with the highest number of cases globally, followed by Italy (105,792) and Spain (95,923). Three Latin American nations - Argentina, Peru and the Dominican Republic - have exceeded the threshold of 1,000 coronavirus infections each, with a total of 108 deaths in the last 24 hours: so far the countries with more than 1,000 cases were Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico and Panama . In this regard, the Argentine Ministry of Health reported that the increase in cases on the last day was 88 units, for a total of 1,054, while three deaths raised the death toll to 27. In Peru, however, the Health authorities have reported that the latest death toll is 1,065 infected and 30 dead. Finally, signaling a similar rate of increase in cases, in Santo Domingo the Ministry of Health of the Dominican Republic has communicated the figures of the last 24 hours that have brought the infected to 1,109, and the dead to 51.
