(ANSA) - NEW YORK, APR 01 - The UN Security Council is meeting virtually because of the coronavirus, and for the first time it has approved four resolutions remotely.
It took about ten days of negotiations to establish the voting methodology: some countries wanted to move their meetings totally by videoconference while keeping the same system by show of hands, but according to sources of the Glass Palace Russia - permanent member with veto right - yes opposite. Thus the members of the Council set a deadline of 24 hours after discussions behind closed doors on the draft resolutions within which they must send the vote electronically to the United Nations secretariat, which will then be responsible for disseminating the results.
