2020-04-01T17:00:32.787Z

Ile-de-France hospitals have benefited for the first time from medical evacuation of resuscitation patients using metro trains

Their arrival did not go unnoticed in Rennes (35). The ambulances carrying the twelve patients in intensive care transferred from Paris were greeted by a round of applause from the balconies in the Breton capital.

A total of 36 ventilated patients left Paris hospitals and joined Rennes, Brest and Saint-Brieuc on medical TGVs that left from the Austerlitz station in the morning.

This medical evacuation aims to relieve hospitals in Ile-de-France, which had not yet been able to transfer patients to the regions. Until then, only establishments in the Grand-Est had evacuated patients to other hospitals in France and Germany.

The capacity of the Ile-de-France resuscitation services is reaching saturation point, while a third of the 3,523 deaths linked to Covid-19 have been recorded in Île-de-France. The Paris region is now the hardest hit by the epidemic.
