The need for good mood music should hardly be greater at the moment. But also epic classics and nostalgic ballads are used to manage crises and escape from everyday corona. In addition, almost everyone is in the home office. The result: everyone is their own DJ and can listen to the radio station of their choice.
Antenne Bayern and Bayern 3 lose numerous listeners
At first it sounds like a gold mine for radio stations. But that is obviously a fallacy. Because the transmitters break the listeners away - at least partially. The latest issue of the Media Analysis Working Group proves this. As a result, around 60 percent of broadcasters have to cope with losses .
"Radio NRW, WDR 2, Antenne Bayern, Bayern 3, 1Live and NDR 2 are among the big losers," it says.
The radio stations are said to have lost more than 6 percent compared to the previous analysis. In absolute numbers, the numbers from Antenne Bayern and radio NRW in particular sound even more devastating. Both reached over 100,000 fewer listeners in an average hour. As a result, Antenne Bayern clearly fell below the million mark. 896,000 listeners were reached Monday to Friday in the average hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Bavaria 1 continues to grow
Despite the heavy losses, radio NRW remains the most popular radio station in Germany. But how much longer? Finally, the lead over Bayern 1 has shrunk significantly. "Because there was an increase of 38,000 listeners to 1.141 million. The station continues its upward trend, at ma 2019 Audio II Bayern 1 was even the biggest winner, " reports the working group.
In addition to Antenne Bayern, Bayern 3 also has to cope with a considerable loss of listeners. During this period, a total of 54,000 people waived the services of the broadcaster in an average hour. Compared to the previous year, the number of listeners fell by 6.2 percent.
