Coronavirus positive, rapper MHD could be released from prison

A week ago, the singer's lawyer declared that he had been contaminated by Covid-19. According to Le Parisien, he could soon go out to be placed under judicial supervision.


MHD could soon leave the prison of Health. This was revealed on Thursday by Le Parisien , "according to concordant sources" . Just a week ago, the rapper's lawyer, Élise Arfi, declared that he had been "tested positive for coronavirus due to symptoms" . Health conditions that would have prompted his counsel, including Éric Dupond-Moretti, to request release.

The Ile-de-France daily reports that on Wednesday "the investigating judge issued an order for release with placement under judicial supervision" . A first for MHD, despite its numerous requests for release since his detention in pre-trial detention in early 2019. If the request is likely to succeed given the state of health of the 25-year-old young man, the case is not not yet won. The Paris public prosecutor's office has invoked a “detention summary proceeding”, a procedure which aims to counter the request for release. The ball passes into the court of the Court of Appeal which will render a decision on April 8, 2020.

A similar case across the Atlantic

Mohamed Sylla of his real name is still under investigation for "intentional homicide". On the night of July 5 to 6, 2018, a settlement of accounts took place in Paris between two rival bands from the 10th and 19th districts. A 23-year-old boy was hit and fatally injured by a dozen people. An amateur video and several testimonies reveal that the vehicle of the culprits is none other than that of MHD. A fact recognized by the rapper who specifies however that he was not present on the spot and continues to claim his innocence.

The MHD situation has its counterpart across the Atlantic. Rolling Stone announced on Wednesday that the New York rapper Takeshi 6ix9ine would soon be released and placed under house arrest for the last months of his sentence. If the American artist sentenced to two years in prison for his relations with the Bloods gang has not tested positive for coronavirus, his lawyers wanted to report that he was asthmatic and therefore very exposed to the virus.
