(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 4 - Aircraft to ensure the distribution of medical equipment from the North to the South for civil protection; the realization of valves for respirators relaunched by Leonardo in various company production sites also using the 3D printer technique; free services to strengthen corporate cybersecurity. These are some of the initiatives that Leonardo, at Group level, included among the solidarity initiatives to support the efforts of those who guarantee the activities for the containment of the contagion from Covid-19 as well as the assistance to the sick and their families.
In particular, the best of Leonardo's aircraft capabilities has been made available to the Civil Protection aircraft, not only in terms of planes (the ATR and the C-27J) but also of pilots and crews, who work diligently to guarantee transportation and distribution of medical material from the north to the south of the country. The Aircraft Division has also co-ordinated and financially supported an Alitalia return and return flight to China dedicated to the transport of respiratory masks. In addition to the investment, Leonardo provided for the search for the carrier, for coordination with the Civil Protection, for administrative procedures, for finding the cargo and for completing the boarding procedures. In addition, Leonardo has made available Pilots, planes and crews for ten days to guarantee the transport and distribution of medical material from North to South of the country. Up to now Leonardo has supported the needs of the regions of the north east with material transported to Venice Tessera, of southern Italy with various stops in Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria and of the island areas with constant missions to Cagliari and Palermo. 6,500 kg of sanitary material were transported for about 6,000 automatic flights, flying for 35 hours, both day and night.
Leonardo's helicopter division, In addition to guaranteeing technical support to the helicopter fleet of Armed Forces, bodies, institutions, Police Forces and helicopters involved in the emergency, the Helicopter Division has made its pilots and three helicopters available (two AW139 and one AW189) different configurations, in addition to the maintenance and operational services, for the civil protection health care operations.
The plan for the realization of valves for respirators launched by Leonardo at various company production sites is currently being fully implemented with the aim of meeting the growing need of the Civil Protection and various territorial health structures in advance. At the forefront of the establishments of Grottaglie (Taranto), Ronchi dei Legionari (Gorizia), Nerviano (Milan), Caselle (Turin), Campi Bisenzio (Florence), Pomezia (Rome), L'Aquila and Venegono (Varese). In the Grottaglie plant of the Aerostructures Division, Leonardo uses, in particular, additive manufacturing technology (3D printing) to produce plastic valves capable of modifying a particular model of underwater masks and transforming them into respirators for sub-intensive therapy. A similar production activity is carried out in the plants of the Electronic Division of Leonardo di La Spezia.
In addition, the production of Face Shield (medical PPE) through injection-molding technology is also being studied at the Grottaglie site.
The last aspect concerns Cybersecurity. From next 6th April, Leonardo will offer a free "Threat Intelligence" service specifically designed to support companies to improve their cyber defense in this phase of greater exposure due to the massive use of smart working for 2 months free of charge. The service, guaranteed by the Cyber Division, will be provided to the first 100 companies that will request their use and will allow monitoring of the main cybernetic threats in circulation and therefore covering any vulnerability.
