At least two people died and five others were seriously injured in a knife attack in Romans-sur-Isère. The man, whose motives are still unclear, presented himself as a Sudanese refugee whose identity is unknown to the police.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner spoke of the assailant's “terrorist journey” before stressing that only the national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office could qualify the character of the attack.
