Flea market bargains are very welcome at "Bares for Rares". So also an inconspicuous can, which turned out to be a real find.

Flea markets are probably the best place to look for nondescript antiques that, despite their appearance, could be valuable. Monika Mittendorfer also made a find of this kind out of children's beers. 35 years ago, she had bought a small tin can at a flea market. After a long time at "Bares for Rares" she presented them on ZDF . At the time, however, she did not think that the can could be worth more than the ten marks she had paid for it. On the show, she learns that she came across a small rarity all these years ago.

"Cash for Rares": The tin can is actually made of silver

"Bares for Rares" * expert Albert Maier took a closer look at the supposed tin can in the episode of April 2 and then found that the underside was hallmarked with 800 silver . However, he also explained that she looked older than she actually was. Maier estimated that the can was from the 1950s.

He also found that the original interior was destroyed. This would have been lined with wood. The can is also a can for storing cigars .

"Cash for Rares": Monika got that much for her tin can

Albert Maier estimated the value of the can at 400 to 450 euros . That corresponds to a multiple of what Monika had paid for it at the flea market. So that would be a real profit, should a dealer be convinced to buy.

Then Monika presented her silver cigar box . After Julian Schmitz-Avila had hopes that it would contain cookies, Wolfgang Pauritsch made an initial offer. This was 400 euros . And it stayed at this amount. Monika Mittendorfer was ultimately happy that she was able to sell her 10-mark bargain for this price.
