Since the introduction of containment on March 17, French people who are temporarily traveling abroad are encouraged to return to the country, ideally by plane. As of April 6, 148,000 French people have been repatriated.
Concerning those who live all year abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends them "to avoid as much as possible the displacements, even to return on the national territory, unless imperative reasons do not compel you there".

In the event of return to France, there is no fortnight in the sense that the individuals are not parked in a closed place, as had been the case for the first dozen returnees arriving from the Chinese city of Wuhan, end January.

On the other hand, these French people will obviously have to respect the containment measures and leave their homes as little as possible, like everyone else.
When they arrive at the airport, they will be able to reach their accommodation by their own means without risk of being fined since "the return of people to their home is a special case provided for in the travel restrictions", assures the Quai d'Orsay in his frequently asked questions about Covid-19. A relative can also pick them up at the airport provided they are provided, in addition to their own certificate, "with a copy of the plane ticket and boarding pass upon return," says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Overseas, French Polynesia still imposes a "strict fortnight" on travelers arriving from mainland France or from abroad.
