(ANSA) - QUITO, APRIL 7 - An Ecuadorian court sentenced the former president of the republic Raffael Correa to eight years in prison today in Quito, recognizing him as guilty of aggravated corruption and inhibition for 25 years by public office. The newspaper El Telegrafo reports it.
A court of three judges signed his sentence as part of a trial known as 'Sobornos 2012-2016' (Bribes 2012-2016). A similar sentence was also imposed on former Ecuadorian vice-president Jorge Glas.
Correa, who has long been an exile in Belgium, reacted via Twitter by supporting in allusion to President Lenin Moreno and his government: "Well, it was what they were looking for. Obtaining justice by doing what they could never have from the daytime. I am fine. my mates".
