"I woke up and no longer had a belly!", Woman in a coronavirus-induced coma gives birth

Angela Primachenko was in the 30th week of pregnancy when she was admitted to the hospital in an emergency. She and her baby were on the verge of death from coronavirus.


Angela Primachenko works as a respiratory therapist at the Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in Washington, however, since the quarantine in the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic was decreed to leave her functions for a powerful reason: she was in the last quarter of pregnancy.

The 27-year-old woman was in excellent health and had no contact with anyone except her husband and 11-month-old daughter since she left the hospital, however, the last week of March her life took an unexpected turn.

Angela developed a rapidly worsening cough, had difficulty breathing, and a high fever that did not subside with medication. The COVID-19 test was performed , but during the two days he waited for the results, his health deteriorated alarmingly.

On March 26, after learning that his test was positive, he entered the Intensive Care Unit of the medical center where he worked.

Angela told the Today Show that her symptoms progressed at full speed, three days after being admitted she was already using an artificial respirator, so the doctors made a crucial decision: put her in an induced coma .

On April 1, specialists told the family that in order to save Angela and her baby, they needed to induce labor , so their lungs would have more space and better conditions to heal. With great fear, but also with faith, her husband David signed the authorization.

Ava was born in good health, entered the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for being premature and unable to be with her mother, to prevent her from getting coronavirus.

After the surgery, Angela's condition went through her worst moment, her relatives thought that there was no hope, however, the next day she miraculously improved and they removed her artificial respirator.

The woman was able to leave the Intensive Care Unit and she did it like a heroine, amid applause and affection from the medical staff, who are her friends and colleagues.

Angela left the hospital on April 12, and through her Instagram account she expressed how happy she is to have passed this tough test: “17 days in the hospital, 10 days intubated. After thousands of prayers I am back home and it feels great. ”

In an interview with the Today Show , the recovered mom expressed what the experience of giving birth in a coma was like: “I woke up, and I no longer had a belly! It was emotionally amazing. "

Now he's waiting for his second COVID-19 test to come back negative, so Ava can finally get home and enjoy as a family.
