Ubisoft's managing director Yves Guillemot explained that the publisher will be releasing next-gen games later - for example, the new "Assassin's Creed"?

  • The next "Assassin's Creed" is one of the upcoming game highlights of the year.
  • Ubisoft's managing director explains that the development can keep to the schedule.
  • But should the next-gen consoles be late on the market, Ubisoft would probably postpone the release of its titles.

"Assassin's Creed" has become one of the most successful game franchises for Ubisoft. A new title in the series appears almost every year. Officially, a new "Assassin's Creed" has also been announced for 2020 . As all sectors are affected by the Corona crisis these days, the question arises whether the restrictions might not slow down production and whether the release could be postponed .

Ubisoft: Game development is on schedule

Ubisoft's managing director Yves Guillemot  , however, gives the all-clear. He told the New York Times that work was currently not being stopped. With regard to next-gen titles  , the developers are well positioned, as Sony and Microsoft have ensured that they can continue to work with the Dev Kits of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

However, Guillemot also makes it clear that Ubisoft would postpone the next-gen games if there were to be bottlenecks elsewhere - for example, if the release of the PS5 or Xbox Series X was delayed. "We do not see any significant impact on our own schedule, but we are in touch with all of our partners and if it is necessary to adjust to do the best for them and our players, we will."

The next-gen titles from Ubisoft include "Watch Dogs Legion",  "Rainbow Six Quarantine" or the new and as yet untitled "Assassin's Creed".

Is the release of "Assassin's Creed", "Watch Dogs Legion" and Co. postponed?

Of course, it would be pointless to launch next-gen games if there is no matching console to buy. But the games also appear for the current generation of consoles. So the question is, is Ubisoft delaying the release or will it be split up? So even if development ends on time, it could be a strategic decision to postpone the release of "Assassin's Creed", "Watch Dogs Legion" and Co. to be able to pick up the games on the next-gen consoles.
