A century after her first epidemic, Ana fell ill with Covid-19 in the retirement home where she lives, in Cadiz, Anda

A resident of Ronda, Spain, survived two pandemics: before recovering from the coronavirus a few days ago, she suffered, as a child, from the Spanish flu of 1918, as the Spanish daily reported last week La Vanguardia.

Her daughter-in-law Paqui Sánchez says that Ana del Valle, now 107 years old, fell ill with the Spanish flu when she was only 7 years old, after all the other members of her household were affected. “She left the farm where she lived to look for milk on the nearest farm. But she fell under a holm oak tree, and a few hours later, her mother found her with a very high fever, ”explains Paqui Sánchez.

Cared for by sick employees

A century later, Ana contracts the Covid-19 in the retirement home in which she took up residence, in Cadiz. The family first learned that the vast majority of employees were affected by the epidemic before Ana's results were also positive.

Paqui Sánchez denounces the “absolute lack of information” but defends the work of the employees of the center: the elderly “were treated by sick workers, but lacked nothing”. Hospitalized, Ana saw her state of health improve in an incredible way, according to her step-daughter, who praises the kindness of all the people who looked after the old lady, decidedly very enduring.

To date, the new coronavirus has killed more than 23,500 people in Spain.
