Apple and Google modify the tracking system announced two weeks ago, to increase privacy and make it easier for national authorities to develop apps. In an online meeting with some international newspapers, including ANSA, the representatives of the two companies disclosed some technical changes aimed at securing user data and at the same time improving the effectiveness of the "exposure notification" system to the Covid-19, terminology chosen instead of "contact tracking".
On privacy, an update of the app programming interface (API) ensures that the codes attributed to users are generated randomly, and not derived from other data; moreover, the metadata associated with Bluetooth also become encrypted. All this makes it more difficult to track the user and trace his identity.
The privacy squeeze is in line with what the EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, asked of Apple CEO Tim Cook this week.
