(ANSA) - ATHENS, APRIL 27 - Dozens of asylum seekers were left homeless after a fire devastated a camp on the Greek island of Samos. This was announced by an official from the Ministry of Migration. "About 200 people are left homeless," secretary of the ministry of migration Manos Logothetis told AFP.
The stake broke out on Sunday evening after an "internal dispute" between camp residents, he added. A second fire started on Monday in a new series of clashes between "Arabic and African-speaking people," said a local police source. Riot squads had been sent to quell the unrest and seven people were arrested.
Samos camp is hugely overcrowded, with nearly 7,000 people in a facility built to house fewer than 650.
