  • If errors occur in the manufacture of products , a callback is often started.
  • The companies want to withdraw the affected product from the market with a recall
  • We have summarized how you should behave in the event of a recall here.

Munich - Errors can always occur in the manufacture of products. A bicycle with loose screws, salmonella in minced meat or germs in skin care products are just a few examples of what can go wrong when processing goods . It becomes particularly problematic if these errors are not recognized by the quality control and the products are normally sold. Then the dangerous goods can cause serious (health) damage to unsuspecting consumers  .

Recall of defective products: This is how the goods are pulled from the sale

In order to remove defective products and goods that have nevertheless found their way home to supermarkets , discounters * or even to customers' homes, the manufacturing company then starts a so-called recall . In the event of a recall , the company publishes a statement detailing which product has failed and what type of error it is.

It is usually also communicated what damage can occur if the products are still used and whether there is a special risk group. For example, children's play trains can be affected by a recall because small parts can come loose and pose a choking hazard. In this case, small children and infants as a risk group would be particularly affected by the recalled product

Product recall: This happens after a recall - that's how customers find out

In the event of a recall , the corresponding product is immediately taken out of sale by shops, supermarkets and discounters *, so that no more defective goods can be sold to end consumers. In the event of a recall, however, it is also particularly important to inform the customers who have already bought the affected products and to also withdraw these products from circulation.

Customers should therefore always be attentive when it comes to recalls . These are often advertised directly in the shops, but also shared on various websites. Another means of spreading recalls is the Katwarn warning app. In the case of particularly serious callbacks, this sends a push notification to the smartphone.

In the context of the Corona crisis *, for example, there was a recall regarding certain protective masks *.

Recall: bought affected product? This is how customers should behave

But what should you do if you have purchased a product that is affected by a recall? The first and obvious step is to stop using the product or to bring it out of the reach of small children or allergy sufferers in special cases . The second step then depends somewhat on the respective recall. However, the standard procedure is to return the product affected by the recall to the store where it was purchased. There is usually no receipt required and the purchase price will be reimbursed. The company provides information on deviating procedures in the recall
