If "Koh-Lanta" is currently breaking records on TF 1, gathering up to 7 million viewers ten days ago and another 6.5 million followers this Friday evening, some viewers do not hesitate to insult the adventurers they disapprove of the actions on the screen. Violent messages that go as far as death threats and rape. For Denis Brogniart, these insults are "unspeakable".
What do you think of the threats received by the candidates?
DENIS BROGNIART.It makes me angry! It makes me crazy, not only the insults which are unspeakable, it is barbarism in its purest form, but what drives crazy is the anonymity of the authors. They are a minority ultra-visible by their messages and at the same time ultra-invisible by identity. We should have much more important information about the person as soon as he opens an account on a social network. When a guy says: "I know where you live" with a photo from Inès or Régis: "I will find you and kill your daughters", it is not possible. Each year we climb up a notch, while in "Koh-Lanta" the candidates all have the right to go to the end, each with their skills. That we are not happy, that we are disappointed or angry after Sam's elimination, I understand, but it's still a game.
Is production important to justice?
This legal action must be frightening. I think that in those who threaten, there are a lot of young people who, I hope, do not fully realize the significance of their words, the harm and the violence that this can cause in the people who receive. I find it very good that there is a position. We risk a prison sentence, 45,000 € fine. I hope that those who have exhibited the most abject behavior will be found and that it will bring others to reason.
Did you speak with the candidates this weekend?
Yes, I had the four adventurers mentioned on the phone on Sunday: Inès, Régis, Alexandra and Charlotte. I repeat my support to them, I try to reassure them, I tell them to stop reading the messages and especially to enjoy their adventure, because that's what is essential. There must be no double punishment. I want them to be happy with their participation. For me, this is one of the best three seasons in the history of "Koh-Lanta" and I have immense respect for all adventurers. And I would like to underline the reaction of the other candidates, all editions combined, who mobilized to denounce this scandal. It is a solidarity that warms the heart.
