The circulation of the most shared messages on WhatsApp - those that bounce quickly from one chat to the next with the sound of forwarding and that often contain fake news - has decreased by 70% since, in early April, the chat introduced new limitations to the forwarding of messages to combat disinformation. WhatsApp communicated this morning to the Indian Ministry of Electronic and Information Technologies, according to the Indian Express.
The decline occurred in 20 days. On 7 April, in fact, WhatsApp had established that messages that have been forwarded many times, and that are identified with the label of a double arrow, can be forwarded to only one chat at a time. This limitation makes it more challenging to share those messages with many people.
"WhatsApp was conceived as a private messaging tool and over the years we have taken several measures that have helped protect the private nature of our users' conversations," the company explained on that occasion in a post.
