Half of the German companies have introduced short-time working in the Corona crisis. This raises many questions among employees.

Employers can register short-time work for employees - but not for mini-jobbers
Basically, the employer decides for which employees he wants to register short-time work with the employment agency *. But what about mini jobbers or temporary workers *? Can you also receive short-time work benefits?
No, explains Peter Meyer, specialist lawyer for labor law in Berlin. Anyone who works on a 450 euro basis or who is employed for a maximum of five months or 115 days per calendar year until 31.10.2020 during the Corona crisis * is considered to be marginally employed according to Section 8 of the Social Code IV (SGB) and therefore does not pay any contributions Unemployment insurance. Short-time work benefits are linked to an obligation to provide unemployment insurance.

Employers cannot register short-time work for mini-jobbers
Accordingly, the employer * cannot register short-time work for mini-jobbers. In case of doubt, they remain without remuneration if the company has closed. The same applies to temporary workers if they are registered as marginally employed and do not pay into unemployment insurance.

For working students with income over 450 euros short-time allowance
But if you have a higher income than 450 euros as a working student , you can get short-time work allowance if the company registers it.
