Aldi Süd reportedly introduces a new innovative camera system. On the one hand, customers can be controlled in this way during the corona crisis - and costs can also be saved.
At Germany's largest discounter Aldi , traffic lights will soon decide who is allowed to enter the branch and who is not (yet): The Aldi Süd branch apparently wants to install a high-tech camera system in the majority of its 2,000 supermarkets. According to the food newspaper, the electronic device monitors that customers are also maintaining the appropriate safety distance * in the course of the coronavirus pandemic .
The modern system should not only ensure that customers do not get too close, it is also cheaper than the current version: the discounter has been employing doormen for a few weeks , which should ensure the safety distance between customers. Now this apparently more expensive attempt is to be replaced by the camera system .
Aldi Süd and Corona: This is how digital entry control works
The new procedure works in accordance with the well-known principle from road traffic (for which new rules will soon apply): Customers can enter the market when the traffic lights switch to "green" - "red", on the other hand, signals that one has to be patient. An electronic counting system is responsible for the analysis , in which two cameras supply the relevant data to software . The result is then displayed on a screen in the visible area for the customer.
As the "LMZ" further describes, the video cameras are installed in the entrance and exit area. In the event of critical values, the employees of the Aldi-Süd branches would also be informed about the display on the screen , so that they could intervene themselves or speak to the customers. According to reports, such a system has been in use at the Swiss subsidiary Aldi Suisse since the beginning of April. The Stuttgart company Sensalytics is said to be responsible for the development of the German version , which is currently still in the test phase .
New Corona security system not only at Aldi Süd
In addition to Aldi, other discounter chains in Germany such as Lidl, Edeka and dm are to think about the introduction of a digital surveillance system . In the Corona crisis, mail-order giant Amazon also uses a camera system to detect in German logistics centers when employees get too close at work. On this basis, the operational processes are to be improved in order to reduce the risk of infection with the lung disease Covid-19 *.
If I compare the concept of supermarkets here, Aldi Süd should urgently improve. No door control, super full (including due to special offer), people only keep the distance at the checkout. In the aisles u. no way to get out behind the cash register, that's crap.
- Nina Schnutz (@ Limpi1909) April 23, 2020Amazon has "hired some of our best machine learning experts to look at ways to further improve the safety distances in our buildings," a spokesman for the US company confirmed after the Wirtschaftswoche reported earlier .
Do you actually have to wear a mask when shopping *? And if so, when?
